History
Caitlyn Lavern was born in the suburbs of Chicago, Illinois to Daniel and Cheryl Lavern. Her father was an inner-city handyman, while her mother was a stay-at-home painter who found minor success selling her paintings at a local art studio. Both her parents were born in Chicago and met in High School where they fell in love. Caitlyn spent much of her days either in school or at a ballet recital, which her mother would drive her around for. As Caitlyn grew older she dropped ballet and replaced it with poetry and drawing. She met a young Damien Crenshaw Freshman Year of High School and slowly fell in love with him, much like her parents had done before. After graduation the both left Chicago and settled in Subtle Valley, Illinois where Damien and Caitlyn attended college. Caitlyn was able to secure a job as a personal assistant at the Monroe Art Studio which took much of her time away from Damien. Their relationship would become strained.
The aspiring graphic design student found out she was carrying their first child. This would rekindle the love the two shared for one another and Damien convinced Caitlyn to put school on hold while she was pregnant. He was also able to get Caitlyn fired from her job at the Monroe Art Studio. She gave birth to Danielle Evelyn Crenshaw on April 25th, 1986. When Danielle was five years old Caitlyn and Damien married.
But married life was hard for the couple and they both had to get full-time jobs to make ends meet. Caitlyn was able to secure herself a job as a waitress at Momma’s Sweet Tea Cafe where she spent many nights waiting tables. One night she got a call from a frantic Damien who informed Caitlyn that their apartment had caught fire and that he couldn’t find Danielle or her babysitter, Sarah. After an investigation that spanned months they got the news that the remains found in the apartment complex belonged to both Sarah and their daughter, Danielle. The couple was devastated and tried desperately to move forward.
Things to a turn for the worse when Damien grew violent with Caitlyn and she left him to move back home to Chicago. She was determined to leave the terrible past the couple shared behind her. Caitlyn filed for divorce and took a job as a file clerk at the Stark-Jones Law Firm. While living with her parents the divorce was finalized in the year 2000 and she spend two more years with her parents before moving to Stone Creek and taking a job as James Thurlow’s secretary at Thurlow Lumber Mill Enterprises. She would catch on quickly with the help of her customer service skills and went on the help James lift the company out of debt. Caitlyn eventually grew closer with James. Eventually in late 2003 she let her guard down and married James Thurlow. This ignited a rivalry between Caitlyn and James’ former wife, Helen Tyree that has placed James at the center of. Even though she had spent only a short time in Stone Creek, she had earned the trust of the eccentric Penelope Wilkinson who bestowed Caitlyn with the 4th chair on the Stone Creek City Council once Penelope left town. Caitlyn would later be known for her great charity accumulations, months of volunteer work at the Stone Creek Memorial Hospital and her addiction for life.
Start of the Series...
In 2010, her past began to catch-up to Caitlyn when she received a stream of presents catered to her deceased daughter, Danielle. When she asked Diem Joplin to help investigate, Diem instructed Caitlyn confess this to her husband James. But Caitlyn couldn’t bear having to re-live her past so she kept the presents to herself. Finally things came to a head when her ex. husband came to Stone Creek. Damien Crenshaw arrived at the Annual Founder’s Ball escorted in by Gillian Sutton. This would change Caitlyn’s life forever. Damien coaxed Caitlyn in and taunted her about their past together. Patrick began to blame Caitlyn and the Thurlow’s once more for bringing the man into Gillian’s life. With the help of Diem once again, Caitlyn tried desperately to find out more about her daughter who Damien insisted was still alive. Patrick’s anger for Damien led him to suggest that Abigail Jenkins was the thought deceased Danielle Crenshaw. This temporarily occupied both Caitlyn and Damien as they fought for Abigail’s trust. Once Caitlyn was sure she had lost Abigail’s love, it tore her apart and she continued to lash out at Damien for hiding their daughter’s fate after the fire. A terrible accident that sent Penelope Wilkinson’s car into a bar during the late winter snow storm only strengthened the bond between Damien and Abigail.
Diem Joplin was able to uncover a huge clue to would potentially damage Patrick’s claim about Abigail. In 2011, she confronted both Patrick and Damien about Danielle’s past and how Abigail wasn’t the true Crenshaw baby that Patrick had led them all to believe. This devastated both Caitlyn and Abigail; sending both women into a tailspin and causing Abigail Jenkins to leave Stone Creek in search of her true identity. Caitlyn vowed to never forgive Damien for causing her to mourn the loss of her baby girl not once, but twice.
When her sister-in-law, Shannon Thurlow Jurado, was involved in a freak car accident that claimed her life Caitlyn accompanied her husband and his family to Paris, France so that they could attend her funeral. It was there that they discovered Shannon’s death wasn’t an accident. The family was headed for more bad news when they discovered that Shannon’s research had led to her death and that someone inside the family was at fault. Caitlyn, still reeling from the loss of Danielle, opted to return to Stone Creek early while James helped sort out the complications of Shannon’s death. Returning to Stone Creek gave Damien the opportunity to plead his case and admit that he wanted Abigail to be as much their daughter as Caitlyn had. Caitlyn gave the man no response and insisted he leave her alone.
James arrived back home, he then urged Caitlyn to file a restraining order against Damien in order to protect her from his lies. Although Caitlyn initially objected to having to go so far; after a conversation with her step-daughter, Kirsten, she agreed to the terms. Caitlyn began to see visions of Damien around her on during Halloween of 2011 she felt his presence but chose to ignore it and keep it secret from James. Caitlyn and James strengthened their relationship as all ties to Damien began to dissolve and so they focused on their family.
In 2012, Diem Joplin had been helping Emily Roscoe track down her birth parents so that she could marry Bentley Wilkinson in peace. They had spent the last half of 2011 coming up with nothing but dead-ends until she decoded the initials, D.C., on Emily’s bracelet as the Crenshaw’s late daughter, Danielle. Diem found James her confidant as they delved deeper into Emily’s past and found she was born in Illinois. They decided that they needed to inform Caitlyn and Emily as a united front instead of keeping it a secret like they had two years earlier with Abigail Jenkins. Caitlyn automatically insisted a DNA test to be done to prove the claims and refrained from coming face-to-face with Emily, a woman she had grown to like over the years. While the tests were being prepped a city-wide blackout halted the process and although a determined Caitlyn wanted to stay at the Hospital, Emily Roscoe -- exhausted by the last couple of months decided to return to the apartment she shared with Bentley. Later that night while she was home alone, Emily Roscoe was murdered in place of Bentley who the real killer was after. This led to devastation for Caitlyn after she found out that Emily had truly been her daughter, Danielle Crenshaw.
Caitlyn was pushed to mourn her daughter one last time.
She began to retreat from everyone in her life and neglected her duties for the City Council. Caitlyn also insisted that everyone keep quiet about Emily’s true identity and to not share the news with Damien. Finally, she breached the restraining order against her ex. husband and confessed that Emily Roscoe was their daughter, Danielle. Although he was furious with Caitlyn, she paid no mind. They had both fell on a double-edged sword. While numb to the world Caitlyn acted out and accused James and Diem of having an affair, and later, she also warned Gillian Sutton that Damien Crenshaw would only cause her grief.
It wasn’t until 2013, that proved to be the year Caitlyn would rise back out of the ashes of her former self. Taking back her seat at the City Council; she found a new and safe way to approach the late winter storm as a celebration of life and asked Charlie to lend the Lakeside Inn’s ballroom to the city for a new tradition she dubbed the Winter Wonderland Ball. Caitlyn found herself forming a closer bond with both Aidan and Taylor as they planned the event. Everything was going according to plan until the arrival of Damien Crenshaw, Stone Creek’s recently elected Mayor. They exchanged a few words. Later that night Caitlyn found Patrick at the foot of the main staircase, motionless.
Although nobody was charged with the crime, Caitlyn confessed to her husband that she remembered pushing Damien down the stairs. James urged Caitlyn to keep quiet about her realization since Damien was well at out of his coma. The couple chose to focus their attention on Emmet and Iris as they began to plan their wedding. Possibly feeling terrible for what she did to Damien, Caitlyn began to be the voice of caution to Patrick, Helen, Ryan and Marina as they attempted to bring Damien down for the harm he had caused over the years.
In 2015, with the help of Aidan and Taylor she took over planning Iris’ wedding to her step-son, Emmet Thurlow.
